AN EXAMPLE OF WHY SHARING CALIBRATION SETTINGS FOR COLOR MANAGEMENT AND GRAYSCALE DOES NOT WORK E-mail

tone-grey.jpgI recently did a professional calibration for a client of mine in New Jersey who had an LG 55LH90 direct array LED LCD panel. Prior to my arrival, he had been using the settings for grayscale and CMS (Color Management System) from a post on the AVS Forum.

It is one thing to share User Menu settings as we do on this site and quite another to share all the settings for Color Space and grayscale. Grayscale and CMS settings rarely translate from one system to the next with any degree of accuracy. Here is a perfect example illustrated by the CalMan Pro PDF file that shows the pre-calibration data on the left side of the page from the settings my client found on the AVS Forum, and, on the right side, the post-calibration settings with my calibration results.

Panasonic D and U Series LCDs. Is Panasonic going to be able to compete? E-mail

panasonictc-l42d2.jpg Panasonic is officially back in the LCD market with their D LED series and their U series LCD series.   But was Panasonic ever really IN the LCD market?  I am expecting very little from Panasonic from their LCDs.   Panasonic struggled producing quality LCDs in the past simply because they were so deeply invested in plasma technology.   All is not lost though.  Panasonic plasma technology still produces the best line of HDTVs when picture quality and value are the main focus.  Let us see how the D and U series LCDs produce images.   We will be back in the near future with the results as we come across them in the field.   My hopes are not too high at this point  (IPOD connectivity still exists - snore).   I hope Panasonic proves us all wrong.

samsung_medialive_1.jpgFor the past five years we have seen a bit of a lull within the general HDTV space.  Five years ago, plasmas dominated for large screen and picture quality enthusiasts.   LCDs started to make head way as prices started to fall and the Best Buys of the world started to promote LCDs over plasmas.   About two years ago, OLED started to show its head, and it looked quite promising.   However, this fizzled out (for now) and we are forced to settle for medicore edge lit LCDs.   Thin is in.  Is thin ever out?
