Component video vs. HDMI 3 Months ago Karma: 0
I have a Sony KDS60XBR1 connected via HDMI to a Motorola HDDVR from Verizon Fios. Every so often I loose the handshake between my TV and the DVDR. The only way to resolve this was to re-boot the DVDR. Upon calling Fios support, they told me to use Component video cables in place of the HDMI cable. I know the litany of digital vs analog, bit since my set is one the the first 1080P sets, it will not accept an direct 1080P signal source and will de-interlace 1080I to 1080P. This is the same for Bluray and Fios. My question to the forum is this; is the HDMI connection better than component video? Kevin Miller calibrated my TV a few months ago and the picture is superb. I cannot see a difference, but I dont trust my eyes. Any response would be appreciated.

Hi Ben,

Glad to see you here! Since component is analog HDMI should be better on your digital TV. Also if you change to component for Fios your set will no longer be properly calibrated. There may be significant changes in black level and white level, and possibly grayscale as well. I don't recall calibrating a component input for you. If I did then you are good to go using it if you like. Thanks for joining us!
