TWEAKTV / Value Electronics - HDTV SHOOT-OUT
On Saturday June 27th, and Sunday June 28th 2009 from 7 pm. to 10:00 pm, Value Electronics in Scarsdale, New York hosted its annual flat panel HDTV shootout. You can watch it live here. The results of the 2009 Shoot-out can be found here
Last year, I tested, measured, and calibrated six of the industry's finest flat panel HDTVs for this event. We concentrated on the most important elements of picture quality to the human eye, measured those components, and compiled data for the consumers that attended the event. These picture elements include Contrast Ratio, Color Saturation (the amount of color in the picture), Colorimetry (overall color accuracy: grayscale, color decoding, and color space accuracy), and Resolution. Like last year, there will be a live pod cast video feed of the event on AVS Forum.
This year, I will be joined by D-Nice of AVS Forum fame, and now a member of TweakTV, and Edward Johnson who is helping coordinate the video streaming. D-Nice and I will be calibrating all of the displays in the room using my Minolta CS200 Chroma meter, and a host of other reference quality test equipment. In addition to the flat panel shootout, there will be front projection demonstrations conducted by Jeff Paiva, Epson's National Training Manager of the Epson flagship home theater projector, the PC7500UB versus the JVC RS-20.
We will be testing, measuring, and calibrating eight flat panel sets using SpectraCAL's CalMAN software to tabulate the results, and creating handout material for those who attend the event. TweakTV will also put the video feed up, and post the results of the shootout on the forum. Please come and check out the event on TweakTV's forum beginning the week of Monday June 29th.
